Project 2 - Background

 As part of our semester 2 sequential project lineup, the focus for this project was the idea of Background. Over the next 6 weeks, we will be looking into the concepts of; Objectivity, Subjectivity, Perception, Character and Vocabulary.  To explore these concepts we used a series of simple recording methods to develop our perception of scale, size and surrounding atmosphere. The site we visited was the Pitville Pumproom and its surrounding park landscape. We drew 5 horizon views, starting with a marked line of sight. The aim was to first capture the overall composition of the landscape, treating the perceived view as 3 lines. We then went on to add blocked trees, key objects and then some small scall details. Another sketch was a 1-point perspective inside the Pumproom colonnade, and one was of the adjoining street, E Approach Drive. One scene was done from the view inside the Park Bandstand, including elements of the structure's architecture. Lastly, we also drew 2-3 minutes of ambient sound while sitting on the Pumproom steps. Another task was to take 5 photographs of details that interest us.
