Landscape Institute Award Finalists 2023
The Dame Sylvia Crowe International Award
Of the Award finalists this year I found myself most fond of many of the Chinese entries. Particularly the Return to Nature—Renovation of Hangzhou Children’s Park. Play infrastructure has such an impact on child development and the range of sensory activities in Hangzhou Park are incredibly varied.
I was also very fond of the Community Co-built Garden of Yuehai Subdistrict in Shenzhen due to its lunar-esque circle motif and chosen materiality. I am partial to the combination of soft grey concrete with sub-tropical plants and am familiar with the plant typologies as they're common in the urban landscapes I grew up in.
