Aymer Sketching
Attached is a rough sketch done in 0.3 Fineline pen on the train ride back from Devon. Focusing on capturing shape and form freehand quickly. It took around 10 minutes but wasn't timed, and most of the time was spent focusing on line quality due to the movement of the train. My goal for this semester is to get more confident with my linework as my mindset while drawing has a great effect on the outcomes. I am aiming to become more free with my lines and feel alright going over a section again if I am not happy with the first stroke. I am often still in an art-based mindset with photorealism as my goal and that is not required when capturing landscape character. Detail is still very important, but as a way of recording information, and not in a true-to-life representation. Often I get too sidetracked trying to space and orient my lines perfectly to complete a piece in a reasonable timeframe which is not the intent of most site sketching. If I want photorealism I can use photos and GIS data, my sketches need to be less strained and reserved and more emotive.
