North Place concept continuation
Continuing the concept explored in the previous post, my direction for the North Place site still looks at earth-shifting and accessible green-roofed mound creation. Aiming to move the majority, if not all of the required parking underground to free up the aboveground space for public communal use. In recently developed urban areas, underground parking is a routine space saviour, with the added benefit of keeping parked cars cool in summer and away from the elements. Underground parking also deters car-related crime, doesn't obstruct or diminish the views on site and creates a controlled area improving car-specific pollution control. To maximise the car parking availability, which is the site's current main income and contributes greatly to the Towns Race Festival economy, I am considering featuring an underground APS parking system. The site water table level constraints excavation depths, so an APS system maximised the productivity of any below-ground space, stacking cars in space that would traditionally only allow for one level. The organic shapes are inspired by Celtic hill forts and burial mounds.
