Preliminary Concepts - North Place

When brainstorming concepts in class I chose to sketch my ideas quickly so as to best remember them when going over my sketchbook throughout the week. Responding to the cultural heritage of the site area and surrounding architectural features I was inspired to create a hybrid response combining traditional Cotswold drystone walling with the regency style glass shop facades. The overall shapes were inspired by the region's distinct long barrows.  Drawing inspiration from Gloucester Services, which is a successful example of a community-led and run space that exceeds its purpose in style and appeal, and the Albert Heijn in Museumplein in Amsterdam, with an interactive public green roof that extends the grass lawn area.
