Courtyard Concept Activity 1

Today's design session focused on fast concept creation, using a base shape on a square base plan. Our designs had to incorporate and draw inspiration from the existing shape on the plan, and was geared towards the sensory theme. The brief was;

Develop a very quick concept for this courtyard garden using the located shape as an idea driver. The courtyard is viewed from three sides as shown, the fourth side is a blank wall. The building is a single story with a wall height of 3.5m located in Cheltenham. There are two points of access as shown. The client has no preconceived ideas of what can be achieved, no preferred materials, elements, styles or thematic approaches. They just want it to be visually stunning when viewed from inside the building and a sensory experience when they are in it. 

The activity also focused on concept layering and the human scale. Below is the first trace layer from the activity.
