The Dark Hedges - Ireland
I was lucky to spend a couple of days last week in Northern Ireland. While a brief trip I was able to see a wide range of landscapes, urban, rural, natural and manmade.
Found along Bregagh Road, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, the Dark Hedges are an avenue of beech trees planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century. Intended as a striking landscape feature to impress visitors as they approached the entrance to their Georgian mansion. Now two centuries later, the trees remain a prominent tourist attraction and have become one of the most photographed natural sites in Northern Ireland. Made famous by HBO's Game of Thrones as the representation of the King's Road.
The sketch below was done after my trip with a combination of a 0.3 and a brush pen. My forever aim is to sketch more on-site, which I intend to do on upcoming trips.
