Alphabet series - X

Getting close to the end now with X. Seen making up part of the pattern compositional structure on the right-hand wall. Cruciform partners following the fourfold Islamic pattern are common in Arabic countries and beyond. Cruciform is a term used in various aspects of art, architecture, and design. Derived from the Latin word crux, meaning cross, it refers to a shape that resembles a cross or a four-fold form made up of four equal branches.

The attached photo shows patterns displaying cross motifs. Similar to the golden ratio, these patterns are made of chosen root ratios that divide a space into a combination of symmetrical and asymmetrical spaces, where the spaces are related by a common square root. Within the grid, the arcs, lines and rectangles are all related to each other by that factor. The root-ratios have the property of being self-same at all scales, similar to fractal geometric patterns.
