Alphabet series - Y
The letter Y is denoted with a forked cross. Also known as a Gothic cross, crucifixus dolorosus, furca, ypsilon cross, it is believed to represent a tree. The letter "Y", in antiquity, has often represented a bivium, a fork in the road, a point in life where we have to make a vital decision. In the photo attached, I see Y in the pillars. The photo was taken in the Ben Youssef Madrasa complex in Marrakech. Built in stucco, cedar wood, marble and coloured tiles, with a large courtyard with a water basin in the centre.
Holding up the roof and arched galleries, the Y is composed of white pillars and wooden trapezium-shaped supports.
