Boardwalk Railing Detailing
For the same module as the previous post, the sketches below are from the conceptual stage of a boardwalk railing detail for a constructed wetland. The boardwalk itself is modular, and made of reinforced precast concrete slats and anchored foundationally with helical piles. However, to soften the quite harsh visual impact I am adding a curved nest-like modular railing system that conceals the blocky industrial walkway construction. The material pallet for the railing itself is still changing, however, the current idea is for it to be constructed predominately out of galvanised steel vertical posts, with horizontal steel cabling and a smooth round wooden handrail on the interior side of the railing. To connect the railing module to the boardwalk, I envision a welded plate fin abutting the end posts of each section of railing. Which would be secured to the horizontal concrete slats with anchor bolts.
