Eden Project Visit - Summer 2024
While in Cornwall for my work placement, I was fortunate to visit the Eden Project.
Located in a reclaimed china clay pit, the complex is predominantly formed of two biome enclosures made of adjoining poly-domes made from Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene. The larger of the two biomes simulates a rainforest environment and is the largest indoor rainforest in the world while the second replicates a Mediterranean environment.
Out of the 2, I best liked the rainforest dome, as it included plants I was more familiar with growing up in a sub-tropical climate. The variety of plants in both however was spectacular, and the experience of walking through all the different layers of the tropical rainforest was well conceived and the level of detailing in the hardscaping has provided many precedents for future projects.
