Clusica Cove - Jurong Lake Gardens
A three-hectare water playground, Clusica Cove is an educational play facility at Jurong Lake Gardens. Designed to let children experience water movements that mimic tidal patterns, surface ripples and directional currents similar to those at coastal shores. The water play is infused with natural hydrological processes to teach children about water dynamics and the natural tidal cycles.
The cleansing biotope acts filter system consisting of a series of cleansing cells containing sand beds to filter out particulate matter. As well as semi-aquatic plants to absorb excess nutrients from the water and reoxygenate. The system includes plants like Hanguana malayanum.
After the biotope, the water filters through cleansing cells it is piped into an underground ultraviolet room where it is further purified with Active Filter Media, and disinfected by UV treatment before being pumped back to the water playground for visitors to play safely.
From the water playground, the water enters an eco-pond that simulates a freshwater wetland ecosystem. Where a substrate surface acts as a filter to trap debris and promote the growth of beneficial bacteria. Semi-aquatic plants present in the eco-pond aid in the initial round of cleansing before water is pumped into the biotope again, where the closed-loop circulation repeats, constantly maintaining the water quality.
The name 'Clusia Cove' comes from one of the semi-aquatic plants found in the eco-pond, Clusia rosea, the Autograph Tree.
