Jurong Lake Gardens - Entrance Pavilion
One of my final days in Singapore was spent at Jurong Lake Gardens. An incredible precedent project in the residential areas outside the CBD. The detailing throughout the Parks and Gardens was exceptional, especially for a public access space. Attached are photos of the main Entrance Pavilion. Drawing inspiration from nature, the Entrance Pavilion is designed to resemble the crown of a Malayan Banyan, Ficus microcarpa, with pillars resembling the tree’s aerial roots and the “holes” in the ceiling resembling the shape of the Malayan Banyan’s trunk. The structure was green-roofed and underplanted, with undulating benches that rose from ground level bonding the entranceway. All considered, a beautiful example of biophilic design and modern architecture.
