Equigenesis & Nature - Healing Horizons - RHS Wentworth Woodhouse
Responding to the RHS's brief of 'Make a Statement', Healing Horizons aims to promote the importance of accessible Green Space on the health and wellbeing, particularly in regard to urban inhabitants. The equigenic effect of nature in regard to health disparities is growing in positive repute, and such data is of great importance to those working in the Landscaping profession as it adds more potential value to landscape schemes. Equigenesis is the creation of equality, and in relation to the health field, refers to when something in the environment alters the usual relationship between economic disadvantage and a poor health outcome, making lower and higher economic status groups more equal. Meaning that while access and interaction with nature and greenspace is good for all of the population, it’s especially good for those who might be at risk for poorer health, mental health, social or educational outcomes as a result of factors associated with limited financial resources. Implying that equitable access to nature could help close educational achievement gaps or reduce health disparities in different societal groups.
The watercolour shown below is my own, painted to depict the late British summer in a public park.
